How to Buy Handmade Beads

Anything that has a hole through which a string can be threaded is technically a bead. But if you will check out stores, you will find several shapes such as briolette, cube, round, roundel, chip, chunk, and melon. These days, beading is common. In fact, you will hardly pass a mall without seeing handmade beads and beaded items for sale. There are beaded bags, neckties, shoes, clothes, and of course accessories! Well, this is actually great because more and more people are learning to appreciate crafts. Plus, the handmade products industry will continue to grow if you keep on buying handmade beads.

Nevertheless, when buying handmade beads, there are a few things that you need to consider whether you are buying online or offline. One of these is the measurement. Accessory makers normally make beads of various sizes and shapes. Also, since the beads are handmade, you can't expect them to be exactly alike. Every time you go to a craft store or a flea market, do not forget a small ruler to measure the beads. For your convenience, you can also download a bead size card from the Internet and simply bring it with you whenever you look for handmade beads. This way, you can just grab the pieces and compare their sizes to the ones on the card.

Another thing to consider is the finishing. Machine-made beads are generally inferior to handmade beads. Even so, you still have to scrutinize the beads to make sure that they are brilliant and sparkly. See if they are faceted or their surfaces are cut into various faces or sides. Then again, certain gemstones like turquoise are not capable of sparkling. So, these pieces are not ideal if you are trying to make glossy jewelry. In addition, you have to inspect the holes of the beads. Stringing small handmade beads can be frustrating because such beads are difficult to pick up and to thread. Fortunately, you can use bead reamers to enlarge the holes or beading wires to keep the beads laying flat without gaps between them.

Then, when you buy handmade beads online, you must read the details very carefully. Do not just look at the picture and estimate the size of the beads. A lot of times, buyers get disappointed with the handmade beads they ordered because they did not pay attention to details. Moreover, you must understand the terms of the sale and review the seller's feedbacks. If you make a purchase and you are not satisfied, you might not be able to get a replacement or a refund if the policy says so or if the seller is a phony. You must also be aware of the shipment details, so you will not be surprised if there are any shipping fees.
