How to Make Handmade Cowboy Boots With Matching Cowboy Hat For Your Baby

If you and your family are going to a western-theme party, you all want to dress up according to the event. There are many cowboy outfits on the store for adults and grown-up kids but seldom for newborn babies. If you do not want your baby to be left out, make a handmade cowboy boots and cowboy hat for your tiny tot.
For the cowboy boots, you will need cotton knit fabric, iron-on interface, iron, scissors, pins, thread, needle and sewing machine.

First, cut the fabric into pieces. For the sole of the cowboy boots, you will need 2 ovals that are 3" in length and 1 ½" in width. For the top, cut 2 rectangles that are 2" long and 4" wide. For the legs of the cowboy boots, cut 2 rectangles that are 6" in length and 2" in width. Get your interface and cut 2 matching pieces having the same size with the legs of the boots. Iron the interface on the wrong side of the leg fabrics.

As soon as all needed fabrics are cut, pin the pieces together forming a boot with the wrong side out. Sew along the edges using zigzag stitch leaving ¼ inch allowance in the seam. Reinforce the seams by backtracking on each piece's end. Cut any loose thread and reverse the cowboy boots to the right side.

Keep in mind that these steps are specific to handmade cowboy boots for newborns. If your baby is older, measure his feet before cutting the fabric.

To complete the cowboy outfit of your son, make a handmade cowboy hat out of a shoe box and packing tape. Use the sides of the box for the band of the handmade cowboy hat and the box top for the brim.

To make the band of the handmade cowboy hat, measure the diameter of the hat by encircling the cardboard around the baby's head. Make a pencil mark where the edge meets the other side of the cardboard. Then make an angle along the mark and draw a straight line where you will cut along. For your child's safety, cut the pointed part of the angle. Form a ring with the cardboard and secure with packing tape.

For the brim of the handmade cowboy hat, lay the ring you made on the box top then trace the ring from the outside. Cut along the traced line, making a hole at the center and also cut the corners leaving round edges of the handmade cowboy hat's brim.

Attach the ring and the brim together and cover the top with cardboard to complete the handmade cowboy hat. For a more authentic-looking handmade cowboy hat, roll the edges of the brim upward then paint the cardboard using the same shade of color your handmade cowboy boots have.
