How to Make a Handmade Gourmet Basket

Looking for a perfect gift for your family, friends or even co-workers is tough as you are not sure of what they like and what they need but with a gourmet basket, you can never go wrong. Gourmet gift baskets fit any occasions and there is a wide range of themed baskets you can choose from. Yet the baskets are costly and with the financial crisis we all are going through, we cannot afford extra expenses. Thus, make your own gourmet basket to save a bit. Read on to know how to make the perfect handmade gourmet gift basket.
Before you buy the stuff you need, decide on the theme of your handmade gourmet basket first. Consider your recipient's interests and hobbies. With food, pick the items that your recipient will surely enjoy. Moreover, if you love cooking, include in the basket your handmade pastry and sweets. But it will only be ideal if the recipient of your handmade gourmet basket lives near you.

As soon as you have chosen the theme, go out and shop for the items. Buy the ingredients you will be using for your handmade gourmet gift basket and also for the handmade pastry and sweets. Include accessories that fit that theme of your gift basket such as mug, plate, fork, wine glass, etc. Moreover, a bottle of wine will perfectly fit in to your basket. And do not forget the most important part of your gift, the basket. Choose a basket wide enough so that the items you will be putting can fit. More so, since you are incorporating your handmade pastry and sweets, consider a basket that is not too deep. Baskets can be bought from the local store at a cheap price. However, you can always deviate from what is common, instead of basket, consider using large fruit bowl.

Assemble you handmade pastry and sweet in the middle of the basket and add the other items around it. You can bake tiny handmade pastry that your recipient will enjoy. Make your tiny handmade pastry made of mini fillo shells. These shells can be bought from local supermarket and are less expensive. Add filling of choice to the shells and sprinkle with cheese on top. Bake the shells until the cheese melts. Place the tiny handmade pastry in a small plate of cup and cover it with a cling wrap to preserve. On the other hand, be creative in assembling the remaining items, remember do not over crowd the basket or do not put too little items in a large basket. You can make use of tape or glue to secure the items.

Add ribbons and other decors to the gift basket and wrap it. Also do not forget to place a card on your handmade gourmet gift basket before you have it deliver.
